Noise Gate
A noise gate — attenuates the signal when it falls BELOW the Threshold, so room noise, hum, and breath between phrases drop away; it opens when you sing or play above the line. Range sets how far it ducks when closed (a floor, not a hard mute); Attack / Release set how fast it opens / closes (Release also holds it open briefly, preventing chatter). Put it FIRST in a vocal chain — gate the raw signal, then compress. Melody-owned DSP (dynamics-rt). Automate the Threshold over a take for rhythmic / creative gating.
